My son likes to shoot off rockets so naturally, Santa brought him rocket “stuff” for Christmas and after stuffing our faces, most of us headed out to the launch area (the open circle in front of our house) to have some rocket fun. Well, the first launch was great but the first landing, not so much. It landed up on the roof of the neighbors two story house and it took a while to get it off. What finally got it down was throwing a football attached to string that was duct-taped to the ball so you could drag it back from where it landed.
As we counted down to the second launch, we noticed it was getting a little dark but it was too late. The rocket went up with amazing speed and that always exciting ssssssswwwip sound and we watched it zip toward the moon! We heard the pop to let the parachute out but we never saw it in flight again. So we grabbed flashlights and started looking everywhere saying little prayers that it did not land in the lake. We FINALLY found it ACROSS the lake on ANOTHER roof – that rocket traveled pretty durn far!! This time it was on the one story part of this roof at the edge and we were able to knock it off with a stick. Thankfully, we have really nice neighbors. It was kind of an adventure searching for the rocket and all the kids had fun – the big ones and the little ones. Here are some rocket launch pictures during the day and another not so "stellar" landing in the lake (zoom in you can see the red parachute). One of my son's friends actually went into the lake to get it and that water is FREEZING!!! Most of the launches had much better outcomes but had to share the more tramatic ones - haha! After the pictures is a card in honor of rockets launching around here.
